Santiago In Transit
Back in Santiago we head so many errands to run that the time just flew. We got in on the bus and had to head to the other end of the city to hit the best outdoor goods dealer in town. This involved walking 30 minutes past the last subway stop with our huge packs. From there we got the hot tip to head to Plaza Peru. There is a Starbucks there and although I am no fan of theirs it is literally the only place in Santiago to grind coffee. I had been carrying a poiund of beans from Montana Coffee Traders around for the last two weeks. It turns out that no one in Chile drinks real coffee, all they have is Nescafe! Before we hit the Patagonia backpacking trip I knew we needed real coffee.
After Starbucks we headed to a Pizza Italiano place on Plaza Peru. Tiramisu boasts the best pizza in Santiago and they delivered. Fresh mozzarella, crushed tomatoes and fresh basil made for a killer Pizza Margharetta. Jammie had a fresh grilled trout that was perfectly cooked. In addition to delicious food the prices were more than reasonable.
We rushed from the dinner to get to the bus stop to the airport. Unfortunately we missed the last bus and were forced to take a taxi at three times to going rate for the bus.
We then had to wait for our 2:30 AM flight. All of this made for a long day!
