NYC Annie's Birthday
Jammie and I traveled to New York City for my sister's twenty-fifth birthday. We partied hardy in the city that never sleeps.

Sonny's Bar
On a Saturday night a series of shadowy figures carrying bulky packages wander sporadically in to a secluded Red Hook bar down on the water front. They are not mafia goons or foreign agents; they are some of Brooklyn's finest bluegrass musicians here for an impromptu jam session. They set up in the back room; sometimes a handful and sometimes a crowd, they play into the wee hours of the morning. Come for the music and stay for the home made spiced cider mixed with whiskey.
How a 90 minute flight can become a 13 hour trip from hell
We left Ken and Su's house at 7 am on Friday morning to catch a 9:30 flight and Raleigh-Durham Airport. About 30 minutes before the flight the loud speaker informed us that due to weather at our destination - Legaurdia - the flight was canceled. Needless to say it quickly became a madhouse as all of our fellow passengers and ourselves scrambled to get seats on other flights. Due to the supposedly bad weather in New York many flights were being canceled and the rest were filling up rapidly. We managed to get seats on a 1:45 flight connecting through Washington, D.C.
Annie's Birthday Party
After our trip from hell (see the other entry for today) we arrived at Annie's birthday party! Hangar steak marinated and grilled, macaroni and cheese from scratch and green beans made a very satisfying conclusion to our long and harrowing day.
Good friends, good food and long lost family make for a great time.
