Around Haarlem
On Saturday we went down to the big market in Haarlem. Along the way we picked up some frites complete with mayonnaise, mmmm, delicious. Pushing on we went to the liquor store. This place is awesome! So much liquor at reasonable prices. And the beer selection! One of the helpful employees showed us which of the local brews were most like IPAs. He helped us pick out four or five different brews to sample, we will definitely be back to this place several times!
Backtracking a little brought us to the market for fresh fish, veggies, and all the samples we could handle. Cheese, bread and salami, oh my! It took forever to get the fish and by then we were exhausted. Frank led the way to a favorite local bar, also voted the second best bar in The Netherlands. Since the best place was on the other side of the country we decided to enjoy a pint here. The bar tender was very helpful telling us all about the beers on tap and letting us sample them before we decided. Sitting out side enjoying a beer was a great way to wrap up our afternoon on the town.
All stocked up and sated we headed back to Christine and Franks apartment for a backyard BBQ dinner. Turkish spiced patties and grilled mackerel with grilled veggies was the perfect compliment to our fine assortment of local beers. We spent the evening sampling and eating before retiring to a quick game of Puerto Rico before bed.
