The Road Home
At 8 AM we left our hostel in Cusco to begin our journey back to the United States. We would fly from Cusco to Lima, kill the better part of 12 hours in Lima then return to the airport to fly to Miami, then to Raleigh.
We got the airport in Cusco to discover we were not on that flight. We had changed our tickets a week earlier and luckily had the print out of our new schedule to prove that. Although as we were saying to ourselves, we could have just printed that out at our hostel. By a very great fortune we got seats on the plane which was good because we didn't have time to wait another day; we all had flights to catch out of Lima.
Arriving in Lima we headed out to a market for some last minute shopping. After the shopping we went to a local Chili's to get some presumably typhoid/parasite/other bacteria free food. We had several rounds of margaritas and reflected on our adventure. Back to the airport for Adrial's midnight flight Jammie and I camped out at the Starbucks until 2:30 AM when we could check in for our flight.
Two hours to Bogota and through three layers of security to change planes for Miami. Two separate X-ray and metal detectors and one physical search of our bags and pat down. They even pulled out my laptop and smelled it! That's right a human being not a dog smelled my laptop. Back on the plane we had another 4.5 hours to Miami and then we rushed through security for a chance to get on standby for the flight 4 hours before our flight to Raleigh. We made it though in record time and got the coveted standby seats.
An hour and a half to Raleigh and Ken picked us up to take us to Jammie's parents house and rest! What a two days!
