Surviving Miami Beach Part 2
An important part of surviving any adventure is having a good escape route. For this we turned to Google mass transit direction search. Google wanted us to take three buses to get to the airport from our hostel, this was unacceptable. Next resource, ask the hostel staff. They advised us to take two buses, the M to 41st and Sheridan and then the J to the airport. While looking for the M bus we bumped into a Jamaican chef on his way to or from work - we aren't really sure. When asked for directions he told us that the M was not the right bus at all.
"I know a secret fast route," he said in his Jamaicany accent.
"Take the K bus from right over there, it will take you to 41st and then take the J."
We decided to heed his advice and let me tell you, it was spot on.
So if you find yourself in South Beach in need of a quick route to MIA (great airport code huh?) just head to 7th and Washington and catch the K bus going North. It will veer off the main drag and speed through a residential area with zero traffic and 100% stop sign and traffic light free intersections.
